Abstract
The evil practices of magic and fortunetelling had been in existence in Hausaland before and after the advent of Islam in the area. People consulted magicians and soothsayers for medication or to achieve life's aspirations. The Sokoto Jihad leaders contributed tremendously in combating the spread of these evil acts as they are against the teachings of Qur'an and Sunnah. This study aims to examine the relevance and impact of the jihadists' contributions in that direction on the contemporary Muslims in North-Western Nigeria. Being a qualitative research applied, relevant books, journals, conference papers, internet and social media are consulted to source information. The findings of the study reveal that the jihad contributions against magic and fortunetelling influenced contemporary scholars positively and produced works on the negative effect of the two evils as well as guidance towards the spiritual medication of Islam. Finally, the study recommends some measures that could at least minimize the spread of evil practices of magicians and fortunetellers in this contemporary period.
