Abstract

The document discusses the enduring legacy of Sheikh Adam Abdullahi Al-Ilori in Nigerian and Sub-Saharan Islamic thought, focusing specifically on his less-explored contributions to Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh). Titled "Juristic Preponderance in the Works of Adam Abdullahi Al-Ilori: Principles and Models," the paper explores the scholarly foundations and rules of preponderance that guided Al-Ilori's methodology when discussing jurisprudential matters. Utilizing a descriptive and analytical approach, the authors review specific juristic issues and analyze Al-Ilori’s style of study and reasoning. The study concludes that Al-Ilori's approach to determining juristic preponderance relies on the generalities of the Qur'an, the Sunnah, the narrations of the righteous predecessors (Slaf), and Islamic legal maxims (Qawa'id Fiqhiyyah). It highlights his legal acumen and robust methodology in handling contemporary religious and social issues in Nigeria, standing firm in his reasoning while addressing opposing viewpoints. The paper is organized into an introduction, two main sections, and a conclusion.
